Basic knowledge of iron base plates

Date:2016-09-19

Iron substrate is a metal heat dissipation substrate applied to high-end motors, high-end product equipment, and motors. It is currently widely used in the market and is generally exported to countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Canada. Compared to aluminum substrate, iron substrate has a much harder manufacturing process and difficulty, which is difficult for manufacturers to master. The cost and scrap rate are relatively high.

Most iron substrates on the market are single-sided aluminum substrates (green oil iron substrates) and double-sided iron substrates, with a thickness generally between 1mm and 6mm. Iron substrates have a circuit layer, which is equivalent to the copper clad board of a regular PCB, and the copper foil thickness of the circuit is between loz and 8oz.

The general process for iron-based plates is: ① Grinding the plate (500 # brush)② Water washing③ Passivation④ Water washing×3⑤ Blow dry⑥ Drying, grinding plate: only grind the iron surface and grind the plate according to FR4 parameters. The first board requires checking the circuit for scratches, blackening of the tin surface, and even grinding marks.
